Police Foundations
Interested in becoming a Police Officer? Fleming Colleges Police Foundations program will guide you in the right direction.
I spent 32 years with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Services, retiring as Staff/Sergeant in charge of the uniform branch. Part of my duties included interviewing and recruiting new officers. I also worked in several units such as Criminal Investigations, Youth Bureau, Traffic, Media Relations and was seconded for three years to the Ontario Provincial Police Bike Unit responsible for removing organized bike gangs out of Peterborough.
For the past eleven years, I have been associated with Fleming College as a coordinator and/or instructor; assisting students in making informed decisions towards a career in policing. I have worked closely with police recruiters throughout Canada, including the OPP, R.C.M.P., Calgary, P.E.I., Newfoundland and many municipal police services in Ontario. I coordinate the volunteer program keeping students involved with the community (Police are the Community, Community are the Police). Volunteer work for students entering the police field is extremely important in their hiring process.
To students and parents trying to decide which school to attend, my advice has always been to check with their local police service for guidance. My experience has taught me that Fleming College will be at the top of their list.
I look forward to working with you in the near future.
