International Education - Work in Canada

Recent changes by Canada Immigration have expanded opportunities for international students to work in Canada. For work opportunities, please see the following information.

On-Campus Work

International students in full-time attendance at Canadian colleges and universities may work on campus in the following instances:- The position is on-campus and of a part-time nature (not more than 20 hours per week). Students do not require a work permit for on-campus work.

Please note : on-campus jobs are limited.

Off-Campus Work Permits

International students may now work off-campus under the following conditions:

  1. They have completed six months of full-time study in their program; and
  2. they are in good academic standing at the college; and
  3. the off-campus employment is not more than 20 hours per week.

For off-campus work, students must obtain a special work permit from Canada Immigration. Please contact the International Office for details and application forms.

Post-Graduate Work Permits

Upon completion of their post secondary studies at Fleming College, international students may work for up to two years in Canada. Their position must be directly related to their field of study. At the end of this period, international students may either return for further study at college or university or return to their home country.

IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS ARE LEGISLATED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AND ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT WRITTEN NOTICE TO YOU. THEREFORE, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO KEEP YOUR AUTHORIZATION VALID AND ALSO TO KEEP INFORMED OF ANY CHANGES IN IMMIGRATION LAW WHICH MAY DIRECTLY AFFECT YOU.
